Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Emmanuel Barbosa, I’m 34 and I joined Marjory as VP of Engineering. While I am obviously interested in new technologies, I also enjoy movies, particularly science fiction, and road trips.
A few words on your professional background?
I have more than 10 years of experience in digital environments, mainly e-commerce and marketplaces.
I started my career as a web developer, but I quickly moved on to managerial and transversal team leadership roles, including through the implementation of agile practices.
Can you share a few examples of the type of project you participated in?
I was lucky to work with some of the best B2C and B2B marketplaces: first as application manager for FNAC, and then as IT director at Astore Shop, Accor Group’s B2B purchasing marketplace.
In both cases, these marketplaces enjoyed a lot of traffic and were deployed internationally, generating turnovers of several hundreds of millions of euros every year.
I imagine you had to overcome some obstacles with these projects. What were they?
Definitely! Some of the difficulties we faced were around aligning business processes and the technical solutions we were implementing. For the end user to be satisfied, it is imperative that the technical teams that set up the solutions have a comprehensive understanding of that user’s needs. Unfortunately, that is not often the case: the overall vision and processes often end up being diluted throughout the different phases of conception.
Dealing with a short time to market has also been a strong challenge at times: implementing tried and tested technical solutions requires significant time, particularly in custom development. Too much time for organisations that need, today more than ever, to roll out their projects quickly in order to meet ever more demanding customer expectations.
Can you tell us, then, why you think Marjory can lift these difficulties?
These two pain points are exactly where Marjory can bring value! Our goal is to accelerate digital projects, including marketplace projects, with a solution that facilitates the modelisation of business processes and their conversion into executable technical processes.
On the other hand, cloud and SaaS applications have offered organisations solutions to quickly implement all the elements necessary to an e-commerce marketplace. However, these organisations are then often left dealing with complexity of interfacing these elements with each other or with their legacy infrastructure. This is another area where Marjory, as an integration platform as a service (iPaaS), can ease the burden. With Marjory, a marketplace PoC can be completed in just a few weeks.
Why did you decide to join Marjory?
I decided to join Marjory because of my desire to keep innovating for e-commerce and marketplace environments. Here, we are building a unique, cutting-edge solution that can add real value for our clients.
What’s the most satisfying aspect of working with Marjory?
I’d say the Marjory community itself. I’m lucky to have joined a community of experts that are as passionate about marketplaces as I am. Innovation and kindness are at the heart of Marjory’s values. It’s a truly stimulating work environment!
How do you see your work evolve in the next three years?
My goal is to grow Marjory’s teams, and for our solutions to become a market reference. One thing’s for sure: three years from now, we will be celebrating the success of the many projects that have given us their trust! There is so much to do with Marjory… I hope the next three years will fly by!
